Ceramic band heaters are medium-to-high temperature heaters with a maximum working temperature of 648°C. Nickel-chrome wire is embedded in a flexible outer wall made of special interlocking ceramic tiles (knuckles) assembled like a brick wall. The design radiates energy into the barrel as well as conducting energy through contact — fit is not as critical as with other band heaters.
